John Hayes.  Thursday morning  3rd July:   The picture is of Don and Trevor and a fellow called Ian from Toowoomba Queensland. So far we have met about half a dozen of the group and today we get bikes ready and make preparations for the first day’s ride to Anguillara Sabazia, a distance of about 67 KM. This hotel is quite a lovely place, relatively close to the Colosseum, which also means that it is quite close to a lot of other attractions. Yesterday we decided to orient ourselves with the city by taking the tour bus circuit, always a good way to start. In fact it was so good for we retirees we went around twice. It was quite hot, about 30 degrees so long walks were not in favour. I must say that I am anxious to start riding. So far I feel I have eaten too much and certainly am deprived of exercise.

I am, so far, with you in spirit, photo of me in St Peter's square in 2006.

The ride has a rest day at Lucca, which is only 22 km from Pisa.   I hope Don, Trev and John ride to Pisa to have a look.
I rode my folding Bike Friday from Lucca back to Pisa in 2006 after a Peak Oil conference, a bit surprised by a longish dark tunnel on the way I came back.  There is a better bike route on a bike map

My suggestion is that I run a blog for the intrepid travelers, using info that will be e-mailed to WA including me.  This may, or may not, work.  My model is Peter Utting's blog from Italy a couple of years ago (  peterandhanna.blogspot.com )

We will wait to see what comes back from John, Don and Trev on their travels

This is aimed to be a blog for the three intrepid Perth cyclists riding from Rome to Paris.  The photos are from our trip in Yunnan in 2010.
